"The Time Void at MGA" By: Isaac Dragovich

The ability to manage time is an essential skill to learn for day to day life, but more than that, it is a crucial part of MGA. It is a skill that grows based on the amount of time put into it. Here at the Model General Assembly time management is a skill that is learned almost forcefully through an intensive schedule. The workload placed upon students encourages them to discover ways in which to cope with the schedule and advance their ability to manage time. During an interview with David McCurdy, one of the former candidates for youth governor and a delegate in the House of Representatives, he spoke on how overwhelming the days at MGA can be. He shared part of his schedule and that alone was a substantially scary amount of work.

The dilemma of having a lack of time at MGA is not unsolvable however. In an interview with Tyler Davis, a member of the college staff, she gave several solutions to this problem. The first is to write everything down as a way to visualize a schedule and complete what is written down, checking one thing off the list at a time. In addition to this, she encouraged mapping out free time and taking advantage of this small amount of time to rest and regroup. Davis also encouraged splitting things up into sections as a way of compartmentalizing information. This method will give the students a manageable outlook on the tasks ahead and confidence towards completing those tasks. In closing, however, she urged students to try and get used to pressure as much as possible because even when following the above steps, they will not fully eliminate pressure. The most effective workers are ones that know how to both manage time well, and work under pressure when time is limited.
