"An Insight on This Year’s Candidates for Youth Governor" By: Michael Powell

A Junior at Faith Christian School and three-year attendee at Virginia’s Model General Assembly, David McCurdy is running for the position of Youth Governor over MGA for the year of 2019. His primary motivation for deciding to run is the simple fact that he loves MGA so much so that he is pursuing a larger role. Not only does McCurdy desire this larger role of Youth Governor, but he feels as though it is his duty to seek this role as he believes he is the best suited person for it because he has been prepared through life experiences and abilities given by God. McCurdy’s goal as Youth Governor would be to “cultivate an environment that benefits all, and not just a specific group.” Also, he does not desire to do all of this work by himself, but will rely on and consult his cabinet to make the 2019 MGA “the best MGA anyone’s had.”
As Howie Spencer says, “go big or go home.” This is the mentality that pushed him to run as Youth Governor for the 2019 Model General Assembly. He comes from a family legacy of politics and is motivated to become the “top dog” like his family before him. As an economically minded individual, he will be pro-business if given the opportunity to serve as Youth Governor; however, he will ultimately be for upholding the traditions of Virginia. As many of the founding fathers and early presidents of America were from Virginia, he believes it is best to live on their legacy and stand for what they have laid out for us and future generations.
From Richlands High school, Race Moir has learned tremendous amounts of beneficial information from his friend Cameron Davis who is currently serving as Speaker of the House for the 2018 Model General Assembly. He hopes to take his experiences with him into the 2019 year as Youth Governor by stressing that everyone’s voice needs to be heard. He will put forth his best effort into making sure that these endeavors come to fruition. Through his governing, he wants everyone to have a fair shot and he will come to the chambers with a blank slate so that all bills, ideas, people, and voices will be considered equally.
