New Hotel, New Experiences. By Abigail Arquette

New Hotel, New Experiences

What influences the MGA conference? There are several different things that might influence the MGA conference this year, but one of the biggest influences this year is going to be the hotel.  During MGA trips of the past, it is noted that the teenagers in attendance spend quite a bit of time in the hotel.  When they’re not running around the capital, debating bills, or in many different meetings, they are at the hotel. Thus, the hotel must be able to provide various opportunities for the young guest who have become accustomed to a fast-paced world and are continuously engaged.  This year’s hotel has a lot more “hangout” space for students than last year’s hotel. There are many different rooms available such as several lounge rooms and plenty of space for writing.  When looking at the online profile of the hotel, it even appears that the rooms are going to be more spacious this year as well. There will be a pool and a gym available for the students to spend some of their time in, that is of course if they have free time.

Over the last several years, it has been the consensus of the MGA participants, that the walking distance as well as the major incline from the hotel to the Capitol building was a beast to endure. This year, the MGA participants staying at the new hotel will find a much better or should I say more convenient trek to get to where they need to be.  The walk will not be as long nor as difficult because it’s just a short 4-minute walk.  Compared to last year’s 15-20 minute walk, many participants will be thankful, especially those young ladies in high heels.
Many different restaurants are found near this year’s hotel which is going to be a great bonus for those late-night writing sessions and meetings that leave so many with hunger pains and a longing for a good cup of joe to lift their spirits and their eye lids. Some of the restaurants include: Tenka Ramen, a sandwich shop, and a Starbucks that is located right across the road. Maybe the MGA reporters can plan to swing by Starbucks before heading to one of their many late writing sessions to give them that little extra boost.
