"Overview of the College Staff" By: Abigail Arquette

As you walk around MGA you will see many people running around completing interviews or tasks. Among those people you will see are MGA college staff members. While at MGA, college staff members are like the students’ big brothers and sisters. They help whoever they can whether it be finding where you are supposed to be or just talking to you in general.
College staff members perform many jobs here at MGA. In an interview, a college staff member was asked what exactly they do and they answered with the following: “we do things such as running around helping the directors, helping the students/officers and watching over several different committee meetings. In this article college staff members were referred to as big sisters and brothers at MGA. College staff members have all been to MGA and understand what a lot of us are going through. So, for the new comers that are stressed out, nervous, or scared they can always go talk it out with a college staff member.

During the interview with MGA Alumni and college staff member, Elijah Arquette, A question that was asked was what was your experience like at MGA and why did you decide to become a college staff member this year. He replied with “Well, MGA was honestly the best experience of my life so far and I decided to become a college staff member because I wanted to give back to the organization that gave me so much the four years I attended the MGA program.” Another thing he shared was his favorite memory from MGA. He said, “My favorite memory from MGA would have to be running and being elected the youth lieutenant Governor for the 2016-2017 session of MGA.”  Another question that was asked was “what were all your former roles here at MGA?” His freshman year he was in the underclassman legislature. His sophomore year he was senator and a bill patron. His junior year he was a delegate, but he was also running for lieutenant Governor and was a committee chair. For his senior year he was the youth lieutenant Governor. One of the last questions asked was “If you could go back are there any roles you didn’t do that you would like to do?” he shared that if he could go back he believed he would go for Youth Governor instead of a Lieutenant Governor. he also added that he believed he would have enjoyed that a lot more. The final question was about his opinion on the Old Dominion Senate resolution #51. His comments on this were, “The reason I support this resolution is they are striking out that he shall be ineligible to the same office for the term next succeeding that for which he was elected… Virginia is the only state that allows our governors to run only one time. What can a Governor get done in just four years?” and he answered his own question with the saying “Jack diddly squat. Texas governors can run more than once, and I think we should be able to do that too. I like this resolution because its now allowing governors to run more than once. In Virginia you can run more than once but only after the next governor is done with his or her term. You can’t have consecutive terms. Which is honestly dumb and that’s my opinion and story on it and I’m sticking to it.” To conclude, college staff members are interesting people who play a vital role in making MGA possible and they provide diversity and difference of opinion to the conference each year.
